The ship is again the environmentally friendly Vasco da Gama with its manageable number of guests of less than 1,000 travelers. The Vasco impresses with its two pools, the larger of which has a closable glass roof and can thus be used in any weather.
The Vasco da Gama has four different cabins on decks 4, 5, 6, 9 and 10, which are divided into 129 inside cabins with 16sqm, 352 outside cabins with 17sqm, 120 balcony cabins with 21sqm and 28 suites incl. balcony with 34sqm. On the balconies there are at least two seats. The inside cabins are equipped with bath and shower. Outside cabins have either shower or tub bath. All cabins are equipped with a flat screen TV. The beds can be made separately or together. In some cases, the sofa can be converted into a bed, providing space for a third person.
The shipping company has upgraded the Vasco da Gama’s diesel engines with a new fuel system to the reduced-pollution MGO (Marine Gas Oil) variant. The ship has also received a urea-water-based nitrogen oxide catalyst (SCR). In addition, a new sewage system was installed on the ship, which reduces suspended solids to zero without the use of chemicals.
Wellness is very important on the “Vasco da Gama”. The gym, located next to the spa, is open 24 hours and has plenty of equipment. This includes 11 spinning bikes, 5 steppers, 7 treadmills, 5 seated bikes, 14 weight machines, 2 rowing machines, and a large selection of free weights. In the spa, dry and steam saunas are included in the trip price. On the top deck is the jogging trail.
The Vasco da Gama has two pool areas – one is prominently located at the stern of the ship with ample lounging areas. The other is amidships and features a movable roof, which only a vanishingly small number of ships in the cruise industry have. In addition, there is a noble wellness area with sauna and steam bath, a large fitness center and sports areas on the outer decks. The “Hollywood’s” show theater extends over two decks and offers first-class evening entertainment.
Gastronomically, the Vasco da Gama also plays in the upper league. It has three a la carte restaurants, including the Asian-style “Fusion” with its special attention to detail. This includes authentic Japanese tables at floor level. But the buffet restaurant also stands out conceptually. It is more reminiscent of a food court with different culinary stations. The “Waterfront” with its 150 seats serves European dishes. The restaurant is designed in an exclusive style. “The Grill” is the specialty restaurant on board and has 66 seats. The “Chefs Table” with its 14 seats can be booked for a larger group for festive occasions, such as wedding, silver wedding, birthdays, etc., for an additional charge. The Alfresco Grill is the bistro for in between, when you come back from an excursion or when your appetite attacks you at the pool. The pizzas, burgers or hotdogs are all included in the tour price.
